Hammamet, formerly known as Pupput, has a rich history that dates back to the Punic era. Under the Roman Empire, it became a honorific colony due to its fertile agriculture. In the 13th century, a fortress was built by the Arabs, which later evolved into a medina. During the French protectorate, Hammamet transformed into a popular seaside resort. Today, the villa of Georges Sébastien, built in the 1920s, serves as a cultural center that hosts the Hammamet International Festival.
